How to Research Comparable Domain Sales

Use relevant historical sales to establish a more defensible pricing range.

The decision this page helps you make

Domain investing is a resale business, not a guaranteed-income mechanism. A useful decision starts with the quality of the asset, the likely buyer pool, acquisition and renewal costs, and the evidence available about comparable demand.

A practical framework

Start with the buyer rather than the domain. Ask who could plausibly use the name, why this name would be preferable to available alternatives, and what evidence supports your price expectations. Then check history and legal or brand risk before committing capital.

What not to assume

Automated valuations, backlink metrics and keyword data can inform research, but none proves that a domain will sell. Historical outlier sales are also poor substitutes for genuinely comparable transactions.
